David Letterman’s Childhood Home Wants to Be Your Late Night Host

Fans of comedy, late-night talk shows, and quaint Midwestern getaways, you’re in luck: David Letterman’s childhood home in suburban Indiana is now listed on Airbnb. Located in the walkable Indianapolis neighborhood of Broad Ripple, the 1,432-square-foot three-bedroom, two-bathroom bungalow comes complete with a number of decorative nods to its famous former resident—including a living room with theater seating and photos of Letterman and his guests, two Dave-themed murals, and plenty of Late Show coffee mugs.

When Indianapolis realtor Krystin Wiggs found out that the house where Letterman grew up was on the market last summer, she immediately saw the potential for a short-term rental in a piece of pop culture history. “I thought it would be really fun for more people to be able to experience it than just one family living in it,” Wiggs tells AD. “From there, I was able to purchase it, and started building out the theme. The intent was to honor him and his legacy here in Indianapolis.” She closed on the house in August, and it’s been listed on Airbnb since October. It costs $200 per night to stay in the home, with a two-night minimum.

While Wiggs doesn’t consider herself a Letterman super-fan, she did grow up watching him on The Late Show. She is, however, “a big fan of houses with stories”—and this one fits the bill. After receiving a lot of interest from locals, Wiggs held an open house a few weeks ago to give residents a chance to visit the home. In turn, they shared anecdotes about Letterman and the neighborhood. “I loved hearing those little tidbits,” she says.

So far, the Airbnb has attracted guests from all over the Midwest—including Indianapolis. “As more people are becoming aware of the connection [with Letterman], I am seeing more people, even locally, that want to book it,” Wiggs says. She’s even had some repeat guests.
