Vauxhall has cut the price of its petrol and electric Astra by £2,750 and £2,800 respectively, with the introduction of the new Griffin trim level.
The petrol-powered Astra Griffin is now priced from £24,795, while the Astra Electric Griffin starts at £34,955. Estate models cost £37,195.
The price reductions show Vauxhall’s approach to tackling EV affordability, in addition to incentives like free public charging for a year and pledging to help customers go eletric with the Corsa, Astra and Mokka models for the exactly the same deposit and monthly payment as an equivalent petrol model when using personal contract purchase (PCP) finance.
Vauxhall is also providing free installation of an Ohme Home Pro and an introduction to Octopus Energy for its EV customers.
Despite being cheaper, the Griffin models actually come with a higher specification than the entry-level Design grade.
Included as standard are tinted rear windows, heated front seats, a heated steering wheel, wireless phone charger and rear view camera. The driver’s seat features a highly ergonomic design certified by AGR (Germany’s ‘Campaign for Healthier Backs’).
All Astra models come with adaptive cruise control, LED headlights, alloy wheels, front and rear parking sensors, high beam assist and Vauxhall’s Purepanel infotainment and digital instrument cluster display.
The Griffin trim is available on the Astra hatchback with a 1.2-litre turbocharged petrol engine that develops 130PS and emits 128g/km of CO2.
It can also be specified on both hatchback and estate versions of the Astra Electric. These use a 156PS motor and have a 54kWh battery pack for a 258-mile (WLTP) range.
